Overview

Cirdan Health Systems and Consulting, an internal division of HMA, is seeking an entry-level Actuarial Analyst to join our team in Saint Paul, MN. This position supports a hybrid work arrangement. We’re looking for candidates on the actuarial career path who bring strong analytical thinking and communication skills. Prior actuarial internship experience is preferred. Job Summary

An Actuarial Analyst will learn and apply actuarial and data analysis techniques in support of client engagements.  Projects will provide opportunities to gain a broad knowledge of the Medicare and Medicaid insurance programs.  Analyst will gain a deep understanding of health care data through the development of models and tools, which will serve as a valuable resource from which to draw throughout your future actuarial career. 

Responsibilities

Work Performed and Job Requirements

  • Assisting in the creation and design of models and analyses.
  • Researching independent sources of health care data and statistics.
  • Assembling and verifying client data used within models and analyses.
  • Preparing exhibits and analyses for submission to federal and state regulatory bodies.
  • Assisting in the development of tools or data sets that improve the quality and timeliness of analyses provided to our clients.
  • Development of documentation for new models and projects.
  • Drafting of memos and presentations summarizing analysis and recommendations.
  • Technical peer review of ad hoc projects and new models.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Bachelor’s degree, preferably related to Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Finance.  Successful completion of at least two actuarial exams.

 

Experience

An internship or other experience in a corporate setting is preferred.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex analyses and ideas.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Intermediate or higher-level proficiency in MS Excel; working with formulas, calculations, charts, graphs.
  • Proficiency with Word and PowerPoint.
  • Query language/coding skills – SQL experience preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work as part of a team.
  • Self-motivation and curiosity to learn, understand and grow.
  • Interest in learning about health insurance and willingness to research technical and business aspects of issues.
  • Desire to work with very detailed data.
  • Ability to work under deadlines to meet expectations of internal and external customers.

The posted salary range for this role at HMA includes a range of factors that we consider when making compensation decisions. These factors include but are not limited to experience, education, training, skills, licensures, and certifications, along with other business and organizational needs. HMA may adjust the posted salary range estimate for applicable geographic differentials associated with the location where we may fill the position. At HMA, we generally do not hire an individual at or near the top of the range for their role. All compensation decisions are dependent on the variables of each case. A reasonable estimate of the existing salary range for this position is $65,000 to $85,000 annually.
