Overview

Health Management Associates is looking for a Controller reporting directly to the CFO to support our finance and accounting teams.  This position is being recruited with a strong preference for location in the greater Chicago area.

We also have extensive experience with behavioral health integration and strategic planning.  

 

Job Summary

The Controller position is responsible for managing the accounting functions of the organization. This will include the periodic reporting of financial results, maintenance of the underlying accounting records and continual assessment of the systems of internal control. The ideal candidate will possess a strong knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and have experience with consolidated entities, private equity backed organizations, leveraged companies, and growth oriented professional services organizations. As part of a total finance & accounting team, the Controller is also responsible for oversight of the monthly production of client invoices, collection of accounts receivable, payroll, accounts payable, and general ledger management.

Work Performed and Job Requirements

  • Operational Oversight
    • Plan and direct the operational functions of the accounting team.
    • Ensure the adequacy of departmental policies, processes, and timelines.
  • Financial Reporting
    • Manage the financial reporting of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial results in accordance with GAAP on a consolidated basis.
    • Pe0rform monthly analysis of financial data.
  • Acquisition Support
    • Pl0ay a supporting role in acquisition analysis, including operational and financial due diligence and business integration.
    • Help lead the financial and operational integration of acquired companies.
  • Compliance and Regulations
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Establish and monitor internal controls.
    • Ensure compliance and implementation of new accounting pronouncements.
  • Organizational Collaboration
    • Partner with other parts of the organization on budget processes.
  • Relationship Management
    • Manage banking, debt, and auditor relationships.
  • Team Leadership and Management
    • Lead and mentor a team of accounting professionals, including managers, supervisors, and staff.
    • Establish team goals and objectives, monitor performance, and provide feedback to ensure high standards of accuracy and efficiency.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous development.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Minimum of a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, economics, or related field is required. A master’s degree is preferred.

 

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of finance experience, including team management and process improvement.

The posted salary range for this role at HMA includes a range of factors that we consider when making compensation decisions. These factors include but are not limited to experience, education, training, skills, licensures, and certifications, along with other business and organizational needs. HMA may adjust the posted salary range estimate for applicable geographic differentials associated with the location where we may fill the position. At HMA, we generally do not hire an individual at or near the top of the range for their role. All compensation decisions are dependent on the variables of each case. A reasonable estimate of the existing salary range for this position is $185,000 to $240,000 annually.
