Overview

HMA is hiring a Director of Data Architecture & Engineering with deep technical expertise in SQL Server, ETL, data modeling, and enterprise data architecture.  This role offers varied opportunities to advance scalability, technology and automation.  

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical and strategic leadership for Data Services, shaping the long-term roadmap and aligning it with broader organizational priorities.
  • Translate strategic vision into department-level objectives, operational plans, and resource strategies.
  • Serve as a key advisor and liaison to executive leadership, ensuring Data Services’ strategy is understood, integrated, and supported across business units.
  • Identify, evaluate, and deploy process improvements, tools, and technologies that enhance scalability, efficiency, and stakeholder experience.
  • Lead proofs of concept and selection processes for data tools, platforms, and technologies.
  • Partner with HMA IT to design, plan, and manage changes to Data Services’ data architecture and infrastructure. Oversee optimization of database servers, environments, and data flow processes to ensure performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Establish best practices and frameworks for data pipelines, modeling, and ETL processes.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance to application development, system administration, and engineering teams.
  • Ensure that key tools and applications meet performance expectations and service-level agreements.
  • Oversee the development, testing, debugging, and deployment of automated solutions for recurring ETL and data operations.

What We're Looking For:

  • Expert-level experience in T-SQL, SQL Server (2016+), SSIS, ETL development, data modeling, and data warehousing.
  • Deep experience in data engineering, architecture, or related technical fields, including at least 10 years in healthcare.
  • Experience with server performance optimization, virtualization, storage, and monitoring technologies.
  • Ability to partner and collaborate across cross-functional teams, including IT, compliance, security, and development.
  • Strong technical communication skills and the ability to translate complex engineering concepts into clear business-facing language.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, design, and implement scalable data solutions.

The Director provides strategic leadership across complex engagements. This role oversees multidisciplinary teams, leads development of projects, and ensures high-quality deliverables that support strategy, operational planning, and regulatory readiness. The Director serves as a trusted advisor, driving innovative solutions, strengthening relationships, and contributing to the growth of the organization.

Qualifications

Education/Training

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a related field required.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience, including experience managing complex projects and leading multidisciplinary teams.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Proven leadership experience, including team management and project oversight.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Proficiency with software, tools, or methodologies relevant to assigned work areas.
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
